Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation Grant Update:
October 2014: DMI is marketing the site as the Central Wisconsin Applied Research & Business Park, has a website (cwarbp.com) Progress continues on the Edwards Ave project. The feasibility study for the research center is nealry complete. DNR permits for demolition have finally been issued after a long, 9 month review by the State Historical Society.
April 2014: Edwards Ave reconstruction plans are well underway. Estimates to de-energize the site from hydroelectric power and re-energize the site by the Alliant Energy grid (by orders of Alliant Energy and the PSC) are complete and materials are in the process of being ordered. The feasibility study for the research lab is underway and numerous regional contact have been made to partner in the study.
December 2013: Port Edwards has been awarded a Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation Idled Sites Grant for $1 Million. This grant will be used to replace the infrastructure in Edwards Ave, assist in electrical service connections to the mill site, and develop a feasibility study for a cellulosic research facility
March 27, 2013: The Port Edwards mill site has been sold by Domtar to DMI Acquisitions, LLC. Press Release (PDF)
With the closure of the Domtar paper mill in Port Edwards, the Village Board and staff has worked tirelessly on a community redevelopment plan. With a focus on existing infrastructure, labor, and comparability, Port Edwards has positioned itself to facilitate a wide variety of commercial, residential, and industrial developments.
